Our 2021 Internship Showcase Series will feature phenomenal organizations who implement invaluable & impactful internship programs across the United States. Be sure to apply before their respective deadlines and fully maximize the internship if given the opportunity. We wish you the very best as always!

Today, we feature another excellent organization… SMUD! Their internship program is recognized as one of the top programs in the country. This included winning our 2020 Internship Program of the Year Award for the Sacramento Region. Here’s some great info directly from the phenomenal team at SMUD!

About SMUD:

SMUD stands for Sacramento Municipal Utility District. We provide electricity to the greater Sacramento Region. Not only do we make sure that the lights are on for our customers, but we also make sure that our customers live a good quality of life. SMUD is the 6th largest community-owned electric utility and we are a not-for-profit organization.

Types of Internships Available:

For the summer of 2021, SMUD is currently offering a 12-week paid internship program for college students and a 6-week paid internship program for high school students. We also have internships available for college students year-round.

Why you should pursue an internship at SMUD:

At SMUD, we offer an internship where students can gain real-world experience and leadership skills while immersing themselves in the SMUD’s work culture. SMUD is excited about our internship programs! We’re always looking to sustain what we consider the best and brightest employees around, and people who want to make a difference in our community, our company and our industry. We do events such as Coffee with the Executives, where the students get to meet with the Executive Team at SMUD and ask them questions regarding topics such as SMUD, their careers, work-life balance, and book recommendations. We’ve also done a Meet & Greet with the ERGs where the students get to meet with the leaders of our Employee Resource Groups and discuss our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts at SMUD. We do events like these to help students network as well as gain personal and professional development. At the end of the program, our students will gain experience to add to their resume to make them more competitive job applicants upon graduation and they would gain mentorship that could last a lifetime.

How to Apply & Deadline:

For our college internships, students can apply at www.smud.org/StudentJobs. We recommend that students check once a week to see if there are new opportunities. However, for our Summer College Internship Program for 2021, the application period will be from January 1 – 31, 2021. For our high school internship program, students can check at www.smud.org/StudentJobs for more information.

SMUD Insider Tip:

We recommend that students carefully read the job description for the minimum and desirable qualifications. If they have those qualifications, they should include it on their resume. We also suggest that students should submit a cover letter with their application.
